Hello, For years, my set up has been a Speedstream 5100 DSL modem over AT&T using a PPPoE username and password. There was a storm the other night and our power was knocked out, when it came back, we noticed that the modem was no longer recognizing the ethernet cable being connected to it. So we simply went and bought an Actiontec GT701D high speed dsl Modem. When I got it home out of the box, I configured the modem's PPPoE settings and was sonnected to the web in no time. Then I connected the Linksys WRT54G wireless router to the new modem assuming it was as simple as that. With the router hooked up, there is no connection. I am not sure whether this is a modem problem or a router problem, please help.

I dont know about that specific modem, but the way that most of the new DSL modems work is that they handle the DHCP instead of the router. In order to get the router to work, you should be able to put the modem into bridged mode. That will allow the router to handel DHCP, and you would select PPPOE in the router and put in your username and password there. I know on the ATT modems, it asks you where you want PPPOE to be handled and you can just select to do it on the router. Hope that helps.
